Before
you were born, I dreamt of you...
And
how handsome you’d be someday...
I
knew how you’d look before you came..
So
I waited patiently for that day.
When
they brought you to me somehow I knew ...
Life
would never be the same...
Had
to look at you and study you...
Before
I gave you your name.
It
needed to be just right for the son I’d raise...
I
thought of Stephen as "someone strong"...
And
after I’d held you for the longest time...
I
knew I wasn’t wrong.
As
you grew up, your will WAS strong.
Sometimes
days were a "challenge" for me...
There
was joy amid the hard times...
I
prayed your strong will would ...eventually set you free..
I
tried to teach you about sensitivity...
To
have love and respect for yourself...
To
be proud of a job well done...tough to do when I looked at you...
It
was like butting heads with MYSELF!
Often
times when two people are alike....
A
battle of WILLS ensues... (though we laughed, cried and got angry)
I
knew eventually, that you would walk...
In
those big ole " grown up" shoes.
There
were times when I was so lonely for you...
While
you had to be on your own...
To
figure out as a man, for yourself...
What
the true meaning was of "home."
Home
really IS where the HEART is Steve....
Not
just where your house might be.
And
HEART is where you find support and LOVE...
The
joy I felt was unsurpassed when you returned to me.
You’ve
grown so much and as I now look UP at you...
Love
and pride (deep inside) are what I feel ...
We've
worked at trust and understanding...
With
the heart and love we both have...time has helped us heal.
Whatever
you do my Dearest Son... and wherever you may go...
There’s
a Mom who will always love you for who you are.
You
may stumble and fall as we all do at times...
But
I’ll always be there for you, though near or far.
